KANSANSHI DYNAMOS SUFFER DEFEAT AGAINST ZANACO FC

Zanaco FC 3-0 Kansanshi Dynamos FC

Kansanshi Dynamos FC suffered a 3-0 defeat to Zanaco FC in their Week 5 fixture of the 2026 Transitional League at Sunset Stadium in Lusaka on Saturday.

The Fearless Mabanga Boys started brightly, showing intent in the opening stages as they looked to build on their previous victory. However, despite a promising start, Kansanshi Dynamos were unable to convert their opportunities, while the hosts proved more clinical in front of goal.

Clinton Lubula came close to breaking the deadlock in the 24th minute with a powerful effort that forced the Zanaco goalkeeper into a save. Kansanshi Dynamos won a corner from the resulting play but could not make the opportunity count.

Zanaco took the lead in the 34th minute through Joseph Kiala before Lambert Araina doubled the hosts’ advantage in the 40th minute, leaving Kansanshi Dynamos with a two-goal deficit at the break.

Kansanshi Dynamos made an early change in the 36th minute, with Kizito Keziron replacing Clinton Lubula as the technical bench sought to adjust the team’s approach.

The hosts extended their lead in the 58th minute to make it 3-0, putting further pressure on the visitors as they searched for a response.

Mathews Banda came close to pulling one back in the 71st minute with a well-struck effort that went narrowly wide, but Kansanshi Dynamos were unable to find a breakthrough as the match ended 3-0 in favour of Zanaco.

COACH DENNIS MAKINKA REACTS

Speaking after the match, Kansanshi Dynamos head coach Dennis Makinka expressed disappointment with the result, noting that the team had started well but failed to execute its defensive plan.

“I think we started very well in the first 20 minutes, as we had planned after looking at Zanaco’s statistics. We knew their game was largely built around the wings, crosses and set pieces, and that was something we worked on. Unfortunately, we did not defend well and conceded goals from situations we had prepared for,” Makinka said.

The coach acknowledged that the team had created opportunities of its own, particularly in the first half, but lacked the final pass needed to turn those openings into goals.

He was also concerned by the team’s reaction after conceding the second goal, saying the players appeared to lose confidence and failed to show the character required to get back into the contest.

“After conceding the second goal, the mentality of the players seemed to drop. It is worrying because when you are playing well and something suddenly changes, you have to find a way to respond. We did not show much character after conceding, and it looked like we collapsed. It is something we will work on, and we will come back stronger,” he added.

Makinka further identified defensive organisation and the team’s transition from attack to defence as key areas requiring improvement, drawing similarities to the side’s previous performance against FC MUZA.

“Our defensive organisation today was very poor. Whenever we transitioned from attack to defence, we were a bit slow. That is something we need to work on,” he said.

Despite the disappointing result, Kansanshi Dynamos will look to learn from the performance, address the areas of concern and regroup as they continue their 2026 Transitional League campaign.
