Kansanshi Dynamos Football Club head coach Zeddy Saileti has welcomed the 2025 ABSA Cup draw, describing it as a fair matchup as his side prepares to take on Super League outfit Green Buffaloes FC in the Round of 16.
The much-anticipated fixture is scheduled for the weekend of April 5-6, 2025, following the official draw conducted this morning at ABSA Bank Headquarters with Kansanshi Dynamos being represented by Club Vice President Chisanga Siame.
ABSA Bank also announced an increase in prize money, with this year’s champions set to pocket an impressive K1 million, up from last season’s K850,000. The runners-up will walk away with K400,000, adding extra motivation for teams to push for glory.
Kansanshi Dynamos booked their place in the prestigious competition after an impressive first-round in the current campaign of the 2024/25 ZPL National League, finishing second on the table.
This will be the club’s second appearance in the ABSA Cup, having last participated in the 2020/21 edition, where the team exited just in the quarterfinals before bowing out to ZESCO United on post-match penalties.
Reacting to the draw, Saileti acknowledged the quality of Green Buffaloes but expressed confidence in his team’s ability to rise to the occasion.
“It’s a cup competition, and at this stage, you have to be ready for any opponent. Green Buffaloes are a strong side, but we are a team that is improving with every game. Our focus is on preparing well so that we can give them a real challenge,” Saileti said.
He emphasized that the match would be a big motivation for his players, many of whom will relish the opportunity to go head-to-head with a top-tier opponent.
“We know this game will demand a lot from us tactically, but we will give it our all. Our objective is to compete at the highest level and make our mark in this tournament,” he added.
The matchup adds another chapter to an intriguing battle between the two sides. In their last eight meetings, Kansanshi Dynamos has claimed victory on three occasions, while Green Buffaloes has managed just one win. The other four encounters have ended in stalemates, making this ABSA Cup clash even more compelling.
With history, pride, and a place in the quarterfinals on the line, Kansanshi Dynamos will be eager to make their presence felt as they set their sights on a deep cup run.
