Kansanshi Dynamos FC will be looking to maintain their winning momentum when they take on Zanaco FC in a Week 5 fixture of the 2026 Transitional League at Sunset Stadium in Lusaka this Saturday.
The Fearless Mabanga Boys head into the encounter on the back of a 2-1 victory over Konkola Blades, a result they will be eager to build on as they look to collect maximum points against a Zanaco side coming off a 1-1 draw in their previous outing.
Away from home, however, Kansanshi Dynamos have not enjoyed the best of starts this season, having recorded a draw and a defeat in their two away fixtures so far. With the team now in Lusaka following Thursday’s travel, the focus will be on improving their performances on the road and securing a positive result.
The two sides are level on four points after four weeks of action, with Zanaco occupying fifth position and Kansanshi Dynamos sixth, separated by goal difference. A win on Saturday would provide an important opportunity for the Mabanga Boys to move ahead of their opponents on the table.
THE COACH’S THOUGHTS
Speaking ahead of the encounter, the Kansanshi Dynamos coach expressed satisfaction with the team’s preparations following their victory over Konkola Blades, noting that the result has boosted morale in the camp.
He revealed that the technical bench has been working on the team’s weaknesses, with particular emphasis on finishing after creating several scoring opportunities in their previous match.
“First of all, we are coming from a win, so at least the morale is high. We could see that from the way we have been preparing with the boys. We have been working on our weaknesses and also on our finishing. In the last game, we had a lot of chances, but we couldn’t convert as many as we could. We have been working on that, and the boys look sharp. We expect to get maximum points,” he said.
The coach also acknowledged the need for improvement on the road, recalling the challenges experienced during previous away trips.
“Last time we travelled for two away games, against McKinney and FC MUZA, we didn’t travel well. We are looking to change the narrative and collect maximum points,” he added.
On team availability, the coach confirmed that there are no major injury concerns, with only a few players carrying minor knocks. He expressed confidence in the squad’s readiness ahead of Saturday’s fixture.
Describing Zanaco as a difficult opponent, he noted that the hosts have quality players, including new additions who have been performing well.
“Zanaco are a very good team. They are very difficult to play against, and we expect a very tough game. They also have new players who are doing very well, so I think it’s going to be a good game,” he said.
A LOOK AT THE HEAD-TO-HEAD
The previous meetings between Kansanshi Dynamos and Zanaco have produced closely contested encounters, with both sides enjoying their share of victories.
In their nine listed meetings dating back to the 2019/20 season, Zanaco have recorded four wins, Kansanshi Dynamos three, while two matches have ended in draws.
The teams shared the spoils in the 2021/22 and 2022/23 seasons, while their most recent meetings in the 2025/26 campaign saw each side claim a 1-0 home victory. Zanaco won the first encounter through Lambert Araina’s 59th-minute goal, before Francisco Madinga secured all three points for Kansanshi Dynamos in the return fixture with a 37th-minute strike.
With the recent history highlighting how competitive this fixture can be, the Mabanga Boys will be hoping to turn that experience into another positive result as they seek to improve their away record and build on their latest victory.
