Kansanshi Dynamos Football Club will head into their Week-21 MTN Super League clash against Mutondo Stars without four of its starters due to injuries and illness, while defensive midfielder Kelvin Kapumbu remains a doubt ahead of kickoff.
Assistant coach Dennis Makinka says the teamโs injury situation ahead of their MTN Super League clash against Mutondo Stars should not be a cause for concern, insisting it presents an opportunity for other players to step up when the Mabanga Boys host Mutondo Stars at Independence Stadium.
Speaking to Kansanshi Media, Makinka remained confident despite several absences affecting different areas of the squad.
โWe have a few injuries, but we have a big squad with players ready to step in. Everyone trains the same things, so it becomes easier for someone else to come in and contribute.โ
The technical bench will be without defender Rodgers Lukonde, who is sidelined with a hamstring injury, while Mathews Mutombo is out after being diagnosed with malaria.
In midfield, defensive midfielder Kelvin Kapumbu remains a doubt for the upcoming fixture as he manages a hamstring concern, with a late fitness decision expected. On the wing, Willy Bokingo is unavailable due to a right knee sprain, while Patrick Macheso is also sidelined with a knee sprain.
Team medic Niza Simukulwa has confirmed that the players are being closely monitored and are showing positive progress so far.
โKapumbu is making good progress and we are monitoring whether he will play or not. Rodgers and Willy started their physiotherapy yesterday and are likely to miss two games. Patrick is recovering well and is likely to be back next week, while Mathews is also expected to return from malaria next week.โ
Meanwhile, coach Makinka believes the situation could open doors for younger players within the squad:
โItโs a great opportunity for those who have been waiting for their chance. The players are motivated, and training has been positive.โ
Kansanshi Dynamos FC will look to rely on squad depth as they prepare to face Mutondo Stars this Saturday in a crucial Week-21 encounter.
