KDFC Start the Year in Style with 3–0 Win Over FC Leopards

Week-15 MTN Super League| President Stadium | FC LEOPARDS 0-3 KANSANSHI DYNAMOS

It was an exciting start to the year for Kansanshi Dynamos, who powered past FC Leopards with a commanding 3–0 victory in their Week 15 encounter, their first match after the mid-season break.

The result lifts Kansanshi out of the relegation zone, taking the Solwezi side to 14 points and up to 14th place on the MTN Super League table. Despite the absence of head coach Mohamed Fathi, who is in Egypt attending his CAF Pro Licence course, the team delivered a spirited and disciplined performance.

Kansanshi wasted no time asserting themselves. In the 7th minute, Francisco Madinga fired home from close range after being set up by Kalonji Mwepu to put the visitors ahead.

Just two minutes later, the lead was doubled. Bebe Musangala finished off a well-worked move in the 9th minute, with Willy Bokingo providing the assist to make it 2–0.

Leopards nearly responded in the 22nd minute when Joshua Mapande’s header was parried by goalkeeper Gwazani. The hosts attempted to capitalize on the rebound but fired wide.

In the 27th minute, Kansanshi made it 3–0 as Kalonji Mwepu found the back of the net, with Bokingo claiming his second assist of the afternoon.

Early in the second half, Mwepu thought he had grabbed a brace, but his 50th-minute effort was ruled out after the second assistant flagged for a foul despite the referee initially awarding the goal.

Leopards pushed for a consolation, with Emmanuel Chabula shooting wide in the 70th minute, while Garry also missed a late chance in the 87th minute.

The match ended on a sour note for the hosts as Emmanuel Chabula was sent off in the 90th minute for a deliberate elbow on Brighton Kabumba.

Coach’s Reaction

Assistant coach Dennis Makinka praised the team’s character and determination following the impressive away victory:

“First of all, I want to commend the boys for the good job they put in from training on Monday. You could see they wanted it more, kudos to them. It’s a great feeling starting the year on a high, especially after going three games without a win and losing our last match away to ZESCO.”

“Picking maximum points on the road is a good sign, but we shouldn’t go to sleep or start celebrating. We must immediately focus on preparing for the next game.”

Looking ahead to the next fixture, he added:

“The most critical time is when you are coming from a win. Opponents will come more prepared because they know we played well. We need to take every training session seriously and aim for consistency. Winning one game and losing the next doesn’t help, we need three or four results in a row.”

On what changed in the team, he said:

“Today the belief was there. The character was there, everyone was fighting. Even some players were upset to be substituted because they wanted to continue. With the right attitude and approach, you can never lose a game.”
