Solwezi, Zambia – 19 August 2026 — The FQM Challenge Cup returns for its second edition, with Kansanshi Dynamos FC and Trident FC set to battle for the trophy on Saturday, 29 August 2026, at Solwezi Independence Stadium.
The FQM Challenge Cup brings together Kansanshi Dynamos FC, sponsored by Kansanshi Mining Plc, and Trident FC, sponsored by FQM Trident. Both companies are part of First Quantum Minerals (FQM), making the competition a celebration of the sporting connection between the two FQM operations and their respective football clubs in North-Western Province.
Apart from helping both teams prepare for the upcoming league season, the Challenge also provides an opportunity to bring the two FQM communities together through sport, strengthen connections and create a shared experience for players, supporters and stakeholders.
The inaugural Challenge Cup was held last year over two legs. The first leg ended in a 0–0 draw, before Trident FC secured a 1–0 victory in the second leg to become the inaugural winners. The women’s competition also featured Kansanshi Queens and Trident Queens, with Trident Queens emerging as the inaugural winners.
This year, the Challenge Cup returns in a single-leg format, with both the women’s and men’s teams set to face off in Solwezi.
Kansanshi Queens and Trident Queens will meet at 12:00 hours, followed by the men’s encounter between Kansanshi Dynamos FC and Trident FC at 15:00 hours.
With Trident holding both titles from the inaugural edition, Kansanshi’s teams will be looking to claim the Challenge Cup on home ground, while the Trident sides will be aiming to retain their respective titles.
The matches will be played at Solwezi Independence Stadium, with free entry for the general public. VIP access will be by invitation only.
