Kansanshi Dynamos Settle for Point Against Mutondo in Fathi’s First Game Back
Kansanshi Dynamos Football Club were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw against Mutondo FC in their Week 21 encounter, in a result that keeps the Mabanga Boys in 13th position on the table, now with 22 points.
The match also marked the return of head coach Mohamed Fathi to the touchline after spending the past month in Egypt completing his CAF Pro License programme. His first game back brought moments of promise, but ultimately ended with the hosts sharing the spoils at home.
Coming from a difficult outing in their previous fixture, Kansanshi Dynamos entered the match eager to respond positively in front of their supporters. Mutondo, however, showed early intent and created a few nervy situations, including a moment when goalkeeper Gwazani rushed out to challenge for the ball outside the box but missed it, only for the Kansanshi defence to recover well and clear the danger.
Seeking more attacking impetus after the break, Coach Fathi introduced Garry Mwelwa for Zeliat Nkhoma at the start of the second half. Garry later tested the Mutondo goalkeeper with a long-range effort, but the shot was gathered comfortably.
The game came alive in the closing stages when Mutondo capitalised on a defensive lapse to take the lead through Joseph Kiala Kiala. Kansanshi Dynamos responded immediately, with Kalonji Mwepu finding the equaliser just a minute later to restore parity and lift the home crowd.
Mutondo were reduced to ten men late in the match after Joseph Mbulo received a second yellow card, but despite increased pressure in the final minutes, KDFC could not find the decisive goal.
The draw sees Kansanshi Dynamos remain in 13th place with 22 points as attention now shifts to the next league assignment against Green Eagles.
Reflecting on his first match back on the touchline, Coach Mohamed Fathi admitted his side lacked sharpness early on but praised their reaction after conceding.
“We did not start on a high note and we didn’t shoot enough in the first half. In the second half we fixed some things and came back quickly after conceding. We pushed more attackers to try and win it, but missed a big chance from a set-piece. Now we focus on the next game and improving our attacking force,” he said.
Kansanshi Dynamos will now look to build on the result as they continue their fight to climb up the standings.
