MATCH REPORT | GBFC 1–1 KDFC

Week 14 | Edwin Imboela Stadium.
Kansanshi Dynamos FC were held to a 1–1 draw by Green Buffaloes FC in a tense Week 14 encounter at Edwin Imboela Stadium, as both sides shared the spoils after an eventful second half.

The hosts started on the front foot, winning quick successive corners in the opening minutes. Arthur Muleya came close in the 2nd minute, heading narrowly wide from the second corner as GBFC applied early pressure.

KDFC gradually grew into the game and began to enjoy spells of possession. In the 13th minute, Willy delivered a teasing cross into the area, but Bebe arrived just too late as the GBFC defence cleared the danger. The visitors came close again in the 20th minute after a flowing interchange of passes ended with Willy meeting the ball with a header, only for the GBFC goalkeeper to react sharply.

Bebe nearly opened the scoring just before halftime, rising to meet a delivery in the 44th minute, but his header sailed just over, brushing the top of the net as the sides went into the break level.

The tempo of the match changed shortly after the restart. In the 57th minute, GBFC were reduced to ten men after Lyson Banda was shown a second yellow card.

KDFC took advantage two minutes later. In the 59th minute, Willy Bokingo found the back of the net to give the Abanga Boys the lead, rewarding their improved pressure.

However, the hosts responded despite being a man down. In the 67th minute, Martin Njovu equalised for GBFC, capitalising on a momentary lapse in concentration at the back.

Speaking after full time, Assistant Coach Dennis Makinka admitted the result was disappointing, particularly after taking the lead against ten men.

“It was a tough game and obviously not the result that we wanted. We had chances, but we couldn’t take them. After they went one man down, our tempo dropped. We expected to push much higher, but instead it went down.”

Makinka noted that while there were improvements in ball movement, chance creation was not at the level shown in the previous match.
“Today we moved the ball better, but in terms of creating chances, we didn’t do very well. The last game we created more and played better.”

Despite the frustration, he remains optimistic about the team’s progress under the new technical bench.
“This is the second draw since Coach Fathi took over, but the team is improving. The boys are responding well, they are working hard in training, and we believe the win will come.”
Kansanshi Dynamos FC will look to build on the positives and turn performances into victories as they prepare for the next league fixture.
