Kansanshi Dynamos 0-0 Kitwe United
Kansanshi Dynamos FC were held to a frustrating goalless draw at home by Kitwe United on Wednesday afternoon, delaying their chance to seal promotion to the 2025/26 MTN Super League.
Playing at Independence Stadium in Solwezi, the Mabanga Boys went into the match needing a win to confirm their return to the elite league. Despite creating several chances and dominating possession, the goal that would have sealed the deal proved elusive.
It was a visibly disappointed Coach Saileti at full-time, as he reflected on missed chances and a lack of urgency from his side. He had hoped the team would secure maximum points and wrap up promotion before their crucial away tie in Chililabombwe against league leaders Konkola Blades. The coach felt his side showed signs of complacency, perhaps still riding high from their recent ABSA Cup win, and noted that they should have killed off the game in the first half.
Kansanshi started the game brightly, with Brighton Kabumba narrowly missing a golden opportunity just four minutes in. Five minutes later, a dangerous free-kick from Mike Zozi forced a save from the Kitwe goalkeeper, but the rebound wasn’t converted.
Kitwe United, playing away from home, were content to sit back and frustrate the hosts, a tactic that worked in their favour. Their defensive approach limited space in midfield, and they managed to threaten on the counter, forcing Kansanshi goalkeeper Raphael Zulu into important saves in the 10th and 21st minutes.
As the game wore on, the hosts turned up the pressure. Tactical substitutions saw Julius Mwanza, Rabson Mumba, and Ignitius Kalunga introduced early in the second half to inject fresh attacking impetus. The best opportunity came in the 64th minute when a scramble in the box resulted in two quick saves by the Kitwe keeper—first to deny Kabumba and then Mwanza.

The Mabanga Boys continued to push, with Kabumba’s header narrowly off target in the 70th and another free-kick from Zozi saved in the 73rd. The final chance fell to Rabson Mumba in the 89th minute, but his low strike rolled just wide, summing up a frustrating afternoon.
Coach Saileti also noted that Kitwe United came with a clear plan to defend deep and “park the bus,” something they executed effectively. He added that the technical bench would be working on correcting the team’s mentality and finishing ahead of their next fixture—an ABSA Cup quarter-final against Nkana FC.
Despite the draw, Kansanshi Dynamos remain second on the National Division One log with 59 points and four games to play. While promotion isn’t sealed yet, the race continues, and the next league fixture in Chililabombwe now carries even greater significance.
