Kansanshi Dynamos Back to League Duty with a Midweek Clash Against Kitwe United.
Kansanshi Dynamos return to league action tomorrow as they host Kitwe United in a week-31 match of the ZPL National League, at Independence Stadium in Solwezi.
The Mabanga Boys are just four points away from sealing qualification back to the Super League, but standing in their way is a determined Kitwe United side fighting to stay in the National League amid a fiercely competitive season.
Twenty-one points separate the two teams. Kansanshi Dynamos currently sit second on the log with 58 points, while Kitwe United are in 11th position with 37 points.
Despite the gap, head coach Zeddy Saileti has warned his players against complacency, stressing the importance of maintaining their winning momentum at home.
The team heads into this fixture on the back of a morale-boosting 4-1 win over Super League side Green Buffaloes in the ABSA Cup. However, Coach Saileti was quick to caution that league football demands a different tactical approach.
Speaking to the club’s media team ahead of the match, Coach Saileti shared his thoughts:
Q: Coming off a dominant ABSA Cup victory, what are your expectations for tomorrow’s league match?
“There’s a lot of expectation from the technical bench and our fans. That win sent a strong signal, and naturally, everyone expects us to win again—but it’s not easy.
We’ve reminded our players not to underrate Kitwe United. In the National League, every team wants to beat Kansanshi. It’s a big game, and we’ve prepared well.”
Q: How have you helped the players shift their focus from the ABSA Cup win back to the league?
“It hasn’t been difficult. The way the National League is played is very different from the Super League.
Tactically, we just need to apply ourselves like we’ve been doing at home. We’ve done well here, but we expect a high-intensity match.”
Q: Your thoughts on facing a Kitwe United side that you drew with in the first round?
“These teams are not easy to play, especially those fighting relegation. Kitwe United have done well in their last three or four games and haven’t conceded many goals, which shows they are defensively solid.
We’ll have to do more to unlock their defense and make the most of our chances.”
Q: How is the technical bench managing the team’s fatigue with three games in one week?
“This is part of the game, and we’re managing the workload just fine. I’m happy with the way we planned our preseason—it was well organized, and our players’ fitness levels are superb.”
Kansanshi Dynamos take on Kitwe United at 15h00 at Independence Stadium in Solwezi, as part of a thrilling double header. The day’s action kicks off at 12h30 with Lumwana Radiants facing Mutondo Stars in a crucial MTN Super League match.
